About US

THE HERB AMSTER CENTER

was founded to honor the legacy of Herb Amster, a well-respected, local entrepreneur and innovative leader in the business and nonprofit community, as well as a generous mentor and an inspiration to many.

The Center embodies and actualizes advice Herb Amster often gave Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County to bring sustainability to the agency through long-term financial stability.

“Do good things, but remember the bottom line so you can do more good things.”

Building upon the breadth and depth of knowledge and experience within JFS, The Amster Center affords this venerable agency the opportunity to offer clinical, behavioral, transportation, interpretation, training and caregiving expertise to people and organizations that can pay for it — in order to provide these services to those in the community who cannot

our Vision

The Herb Amster Center is model to other mission-driven non-profits for using social entrepreneurship as a method of creating sustainability against a tightened funding landscape. Concurrently, the center serves as a door through which Corporate America can enter as it seeks a better balance of money and meaning.
